Whale season runs December through April, peaking January through March. Hurricane season officially runs June through November, but the real risk window is August and September; October still carries some storm risk, November is reliably dry again. If you're chasing calm water for snorkeling or diving, October and November usually have the best visibility. Whatever the season, mornings are calmer than afternoons almost every day here, so book water activities early if you can.

This is the one thing worth reading twice. Cabo sits where the Pacific meets the Sea of Cortez, and the two sides behave completely differently. Médano Beach, in town, is calm and safe, it's the one everyone means when they say "the beach" in Cabo. Chileno and Santa María, out on the Corridor, are also safe and better for snorkeling. The Pacific-facing beaches are a different story: Divorce Beach, Solmar, and Pedregal all look stunning and are not safe for swimming, steep drop-offs and real undertow, not a scare story. Every beach uses a flag system: green means go, yellow means be careful, red or black means stay out no matter how calm it looks from the sand. If you're ever unsure, look for a crowd. If nobody's in the water, there's a reason.

Uber works fine once you're in town, but it can't legally pick you up at the airport itself, don't believe anyone at the terminal who tells you otherwise. Your options from the airport are a pre-booked private transfer, an official airport taxi (no meters, agree on the price in pesos before you get in), or a shared shuttle if you're on a budget and don't mind waiting for other passengers. Once you're settled, Uber is the easiest way to get around downtown, and the Ruta del Desierto bus is the cheapest way to move along the Corridor toward San José del Cabo.

It usually starts before you've even left the airport, someone friendly right past customs offering a free breakfast, a discounted tour, or "just a few questions." The people at the little information booths downtown are almost always the same thing in a different outfit. The move that works: don't stop, don't make small talk, just say "no gracias" and keep walking. Engaging even briefly, out of politeness, is what gets people stuck in a 90-minute presentation.

The "free tequila tour" pitches along the marina. A taco stand that's empty at lunch when the one next door has a line, that's not a coincidence. And if a boat tour to the Arch seems suspiciously cheap, check what's actually included, snorkel gear and the national park fee are sometimes left off the advertised price and added back on later.
